martin rich HOME

This illustration was a very special one for me. The father of a friend of mine wanted me to draw his childhood home.

His childhood home did not have any full, clear photos of what the house looked like. To use as my reference material, I received an envelope with a few old newspaper clipping copies and some of his old black and white photos that had partial shots of the house.

Luckily, we got together while he was visiting my friend here in Chicago and recreated the outlines and details of the house from these visual artifacts and his memory. It was so sweet and impressive how lovingly he remembered the details, the trim colors, the shutters, the sunroom. After I drew the initial layout, he had a few corrections and the house has come alive in this illustration.

Home is where love is and I am honored that I was able to draw this home.
